Cloverfield (1-18-08)

I finally saw the Transformers movie last night and it was as great as I had hoped. Before the movie started there was a teaser trailer for a movie made by Bad Robot Productions that had no title, simply the date 1-18-08. A quick search this morning led me to some sites that indicate the movie has the code name "Cloverfield" and it is supposedly some kind of monster movie. The trailer starts off inside a New York loft at a going away party for a 20-something guy. Filmed using a camcorder, it shows folks enjoying the party when they hear a giant roar reminiscent of Godzilla. Everyone starts to freak out and they run up to the roof of the apartment to see what is happening. Another roar is heard and a giant fireball/explosion can be seen in the distance. The scene cuts to people running down the street screaming, more airborne fireballs and roaring. Then the Statue of Liberty's head goes bouncing down the street. The film cuts to black and it says 1-18-08. The preview looks to be something along the lines of Blair Witch Project meets Godzilla, which to me is very interesting. This movie is being marketed quite well as there is a huge buzz online about it now due to the vagueness of the trailer. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for more information on this movie as it becomes available.
